As a teaser to its new upcoming full-length, Magnapop offers us Fire All Your Guns At Once. If the new album is anything like this EP, it's sure to be one of this year's standouts. Now out from under the protective wing of former producer Bob Mould, Magnapop sounds more secure, more confident in its writing, as well as in its performances, with production acting more as the means to get the sound across rather than an end in itself. Linda Hopper's voice sounds more emotional than ever as she steps away from the double- and triple- tracked vocals found on the band's last album, Hot Boxing, and new drummer Mark Posgay lends a more relaxed, almost effortless energy to the mix. For a couple perfect examples of how Magnapop's hook-laden songs can drag you in, listen to "Hold You Down" or "Voice Without A Sound."
