Syd Straw, Beth Ullman, Pam Peltz, Carrie Clark, Carrie Akre... Must be ladies' week, so it's a good thing two of my very favorite ladies are in from Athens, GA. With Linda Hopper's deadpan vocals and Ruthie Morris' Joan Jett guitar (and a bash `n' pop rhythm section), Magnapop are one of the best modern rock bands out there, and their new album, Rubbing Doesn't Help -- produced by punk legend Geza X (instead of Bob Mould) -- is part of the reason why.
